For Founders Law is built for modern businesses that move fast. We work on a defined-scope, fixed-fee, and retainer-based model, with three ways to engage depending on how your business operates: project-based support, bundles for connected needs, or a fractional General Counsel retainer for ongoing strategic coverage.
The goal is not just to draft documents. It is to bring legal strategy closer to decision-making — so contracts, risk, ownership, compliance, and growth infrastructure are handled before they become expensive distractions.
The information on this page is provided for general information purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. A lawyer-client relationship is only formed once we both sign an engagement letter.
Baseline support
Included in all engagements
Unlimited questions (within scope) →
Every engagement includes unlimited questions related to that engagement's scope. Ask follow-ups, sanity-check language, and get quick clarity without feeling like every message becomes a billable event. If your needs expand beyond scope, we'll tell you first and quote the next step.
Plain-English risk summary →
You'll receive a practical summary of what matters: what's risky, what's market, what's missing, what's negotiable, and what to prioritize based on leverage, timing, and deal reality.
Defined deliverables + clear turnaround →
Before you start, you'll know exactly what you're getting and when. If timing matters, share the deadline early and we'll confirm what is realistic before work begins.
Founder-first communication →
You won't get legal jargon without decisions. We keep it direct: what the clause does, what needs to change, what is acceptable, and where the real business risk sits.
Option 1
Project-based
Defined scope · Fixed fee · Defined deliverables
Best for one-off needs where you want a clear plan, a clear deliverable, and clean execution — without open-ended billing.
Contract drafting, review & negotiation support →
Review, practical risk summary, and recommended changes you can actually use. Common examples: service agreements, influencer and brand collaborations, licensing terms, affiliate agreements, vendor terms, NDAs, and partnership documents.
Lease review →
A commercial lease can quietly become your largest liability. We focus on the clauses that actually affect cost, flexibility, renewal rights, guarantees, assignment, and exit risk.
Trademark filing (Canada) + brand protection →
We help you choose a protectable mark, map goods and services strategically, and file correctly. If objections, office actions, or opposition issues arise, that phase is scoped separately so cost stays predictable.
Employment & contractor agreements →
Founder-first hiring documents that protect IP, reduce termination risk, and set expectations clearly. Includes employment agreements, contractor agreements, and IP assignment structures for developers, agencies, designers, and creators.
Regulatory correspondence & compliance positioning →
When a regulator, platform, or authority is involved, your first response matters. We help you preserve the record, frame the issue properly, and respond in a way that protects leverage without escalating unnecessarily.
Demand letters & dispute strategy →
For non-payment, breach, misuse of content, false reviews, or business disputes where you need a strong first move. We review the facts, set strategy, and draft from a position of leverage.
Option 2
Bundles
A cohesive legal system
Best if you have connected needs and want your documents to function as one coherent system. Bundles reduce gaps, improve consistency, and build legal infrastructure that supports scale.
Foundation bundle →
For early-stage founders who want the baseline done properly. Typically includes core website terms, privacy language, and one business-critical agreement matched to your model.
Growth bundle →
For businesses with regular deal flow that need consistency across sales, delivery, and subcontracting. Typically includes reusable agreements and supporting documents that reduce friction and strengthen enforceability.
Creator / brand deal bundle →
For creators and brands running recurring collaborations. Typically includes a deal template plus add-ons for usage rights, approvals, licensing, whitelisting, exclusivity, and compliance guardrails.
Product / app launch bundle →
For founders launching products and platforms who need terms and privacy language aligned with the real user flow: accounts, subscriptions, payments, community content, messaging, moderation, and platform risk.
Option 3
Fractional General Counsel
A lawyer embedded in the business
Best for founders who want consistent legal coverage instead of one-off projects. Designed for steady questions, ongoing contract flow, practical risk management, and faster turnaround — so legal supports execution rather than slowing it down.
What it covers →
Coverage is set with a defined monthly scope so you know what is included. Typically covers recurring questions, contract triage and review, targeted edits, risk calls, priority support, and strategic communication with counterparties on active matters.
How it's structured →
Retainers are tailored to your business stage, operating rhythm, and deal flow. The goal is predictable access and predictable cost — so legal becomes a normal part of operations rather than a bottleneck or budgeting surprise.
What's outside scope →
If something falls outside the retainer — for example litigation, complex multi-party disputes, large custom drafting builds, or highly specialized filings — we'll quote it separately so the retainer stays clean and predictable.
Decision guide
What should you choose?
Choose Project-Based if… →
You have a specific issue to solve right now and want a defined deliverable, a defined timeline, and a predictable fixed fee.
Choose Bundles if… →
You want multiple documents to work together as a system and would rather solve structural gaps now than pay for them later.
Choose Fractional GC if… →
You have recurring questions, steady contract flow, and need fast, consistent legal support from counsel who understands how your business actually operates.
FAQ
How it works
What happens after I book? →
We'll confirm fit, clarify the business objective, and recommend the cleanest next step. If we can scope it, we'll quote it. If the matter is too unpredictable to scope responsibly, we'll explain the options before any work begins.
Do you offer hourly billing? →
We prioritize fixed-fee scopes and retainer-based support whenever possible. If a matter cannot be scoped responsibly, we'll discuss options and confirm the structure before moving forward.
Can I start with a project and move into a retainer? →
Yes. Many clients start with a project or bundle and move into ongoing counsel once they want faster turnaround, better continuity, and consistent legal coverage.
Do you work with clients outside Toronto? →
Yes. We work remotely with clients across Ontario and frequently support online-first businesses regardless of where they are based.
