Trademark search and filing
Protect your company or product name in Canada. Your name and your work.
What it is
A registered trademark protects your company or product name in Canada for the goods and services it covers. We search for conflicting marks first, then file a Canadian application for one class of goods or services.
Incorporating a company doesn’t give you trademark rights in its name. Searching before you spend on branding and marketing tells you whether someone else already has a conflicting mark.
You likely need this if
- You’ve picked a company or product name and plan to market it
- You’re about to launch, rebrand or print packaging
- You want to stop others from using a similar name
- An investor or buyer asked what IP the company owns
What the starting price includes
- Clearance search
- Canadian application for one class
What can change the price
- Additional classes
- Responding to an examiner’s report
We tell you before doing anything outside the agreed scope, and agree the fee first.

Questions founders ask
Isn’t my name protected once I incorporate?
No. Incorporating or registering a business name is separate from trademark rights. A registered trademark gives you rights in the name across Canada for the goods and services it covers.
What is a class?
Trademark applications list goods and services, grouped into classes. The starting price covers one class; each additional class is quoted before filing, and the government charges its fees per class.
What if the examiner objects?
The examiner may issue a report raising objections to the application. Responding to it is quoted separately, before any work starts.
